Summary by Carrie Dagenhard

Although The Ocelots missed Popfest last year, they played in 2006 and say they’re excited to be back. The band hails from Nashville, and their cut and dry three piece sound is just as odd and endearing as the name might suggest. A little bit punk and a little bit pop, you know what you’re getting into and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
The Ocelots will be releasing their new album “Cellar and the Ghost” the week after their performance, so expect new songs aplenty. The tunes are catchy in that stuck–in-your-head-for-three-days sort of way, so also expect to be singing along to the chorus at the end of each song as well.

Five Questions with the Ocelots

1. What are your five desert island records?

This is always a tricky question since there are 3 of us. Chris would definitely take Deerhoof--"Reveille". Paul would bring the Nation of Ulysses' "Plays Pretty for Baby". Greg would probably take Miles Davis "Bitches Brew". And then we'd have to barter with our last 2 cd's and try to score some water and matches. We've seen a little too much Survivor to fall for the whole "all you need is 5 cds" thing.

2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?

a little too complicated to be twee pop and a little too happy-go-lucky to be math rock

3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?

Athens because it's the most awesome place in the world and stuff.

4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?

Our drummer! Ha-cha! I kid. We usually take a portable dvd player and all 22 chapters of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet"

5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?

At least one cover of a Cars Can Be Blue song.
