Summary by Len Neighbors

This D.C. quartet blares out like an underground militia in a basement club. Their style is less aggressive than it is blunt. Bottom heavy percussion, drilling baritone guitar and multiple layers of keyboard riffs are counter-balanced by Breck Brunson's shrill vocals and punchy treble figures in the keys. The live show is not to be missed!

Five Questions with the Apes

1. What are your five desert island records?

Prayers on Fire, Birthday Party
Meaty, Beaty, Big, and Bouncy, The Who
Eye Against Eye, Bad Brains
Revolver, Beatles
Band of Gypsys, Jimi Hendrix

2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?

If Stevie Wonder was living on Sesame Street and Greg Ginn and Cindy Lauper move in, and they all borrow toilet paper from each other—we sound like that exchange.

3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?

In the United States, the 9:30 Club in our hometown of Washington, DC is without a doubt one of the nicest venues in this country. Every element necessary for a good show is executed on a nightly basis. The Bottle Tree is Birmingham, Alabama is the first runner up.

4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?

I take Fabreze to mask the stench of a sweat-soaked costume, a red ski mask, and a bright-orange vinyl hat with furry ear flaps. (Amanda)

5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?

People should expect to have all of their internal organs massaged and cleansed.
