Whistling School for Boys

This is such a cool ‘band’. In actuality, this is the project of longtime Athens Popfest supporter and pop music enthusiast Sabrina Cuadra. Performing alongside self-created visuals Whistling School For Boys plays a blend of electronic pop that straddles the line between familiar and exploratory. It’s as if Gary Numan had begun writing some tunes and then said, “You know, this sounds too normal so I’m gonna mess with it a whole bunch.” Which is, of course, exactly what Numan did and that’s pretty much the best way to describe Whistling School for Boys. This is the first Athens Popfest performance by the project.

1. What are your five desert island records?
Panda Bear "Person Pitch", Micheal Jackson's "Thriller", 2 Live Crew's "As Nasty As They Wanna Be", Bjork's "Vespertine" & The Beatles' "1962-1966"
2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?
Avant-garde
3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?
So far my favorite places to play are dirty rock bars where folks aren't really there to see me, but end up interested and enjoying the show.
4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?
I have my first very small tour coming up, so I don't know yet!
5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?
They'll have fun! I have been know to "play" edibles (sugar sandwiches) and thrown stuffed animals at the audience. I won't say that those exact things will happen again, but something fun, uncomfortable and strange will happen!
