We Versus the Shark

We Versus the Shark is an Athens quartet formed in 2003. Their two LPs on the Hello Sir label: Ruin Everything!, the recent Dirty Versions – not to mention their rigorous touring – has gained them a Prog darling status both locally and nationally (with recent coverage on NPR).

WVTS’s progressive tendencies balance between the moody and the methodical. Their use of dynamics, texture and structure bring an Id quality into a genre that’s often criticized as being too Ego. Their sounds are packed with layers or moments of musical virtuosity, yet their musical mood swings and easy-going stage presence shatter any exclusionary “showiness” and offer accessibility across the fine line between “appreciating” and simply enjoying.
