Summary by Carrie Dagenhard

Railcars is based on the solo works of San Francisco based Aria C. Jalali. The multi-talented, multi-insturmentalist is accompanied onstage by Bilijana Mirkovski, Dasha Bulatova, and Shaw Waters for a show that is sure to keep you entranced through their hypnotically synthesized layers.

Railcars makes use of drum machines, noise petals, and synthesizers to produce an intriguing and catchy sound. And it’s no wonder, considering the latest album was produced by Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart. This is not only Railcars first PopFest, but their first venture into the South as well.

Five Questions with Railcars

1. What are your five desert island records?

Dan Deacon, Spiderman of the Rings
Times New Viking, Rip it Off
Health - self titled
Mika Miko, 666
Deerhoof, Milk Man

2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?

noisey, electronic, rumbley, spastic art pop

3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?

Mama Buzz Cafe in Oakland, California because the maximum occupancy is about 20 to 30 people, everyone gathers around you, and stands right in your face while you play.

4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?

Where do we even begin?

5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?

We don’t even know. We are trying a completely new members lineup and new setup of electronics and brand new material for the first time. It could be the Second Coming of Christ or it could be complete horseshit. Either would be fine.
