Patience Please

Website | MySpace
Summary by Carrie Dagenhard

The upbeat vocals and electric organ demand that this band be classified as pop. But the witty lyrics add introspect and depth commonly not associated with the genre.
The foursome began as a collaboration between high school pals Ray Proudfoot and Keenan Dowers. Jordan Michelman and Chris McFarlane were soon added to the mix, and the powerpop force was complete. This is the band’s third Popfest experience in a row, and we can only hope to keep them coming back. Their tunes are short and sweet—a perfect performance for any Popfest attendees dealing with concert ADD.

Five Questions with Patience Please

1. What are your five desert island records:

1. Prince -"Sign O' The Times"

2. Bow Wow Wow - "See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah. City All Over! Go Ape Crazy."

3. The 6ths - "Wasps' Nests"

4. Randy Newman - his first four records (I'll make room)

5. Andy Partridge - Fuzzy Warbles Volumes 1-8 Collector's Set

2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?

- the very best Elvis Costello and the Attractions impression we can possibly muster. A vocalist that sounds somewhere between John Linnell and John K. Samson. Bass turned up real loud. Sweet harmonies to color the mix, as if Rachel Sweet played keys and Mike Mills played drums. Lyricists obsessed with XTC and Silkworm, respectively. Add a dose of Superchunk and you're just about there...

3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?

-St. Louis, because they believe in open bars instead of drink tickets.
Champagne/Urbana, because then we get to shop at the Parasol store. And of course, Athens GA, the undisputed center of the universe.

4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?

- the 4 people in our band.

5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?

- songs from our HHBTM album "Fleeting Frequencies", broken strings, nerves, and speedy tempos.

(These are Jordan’s answers.)
