This tasty little quintet from Gainesville Florida is making their way back up to Athens Popfest for another round. Rumors on their myspace tell us this time round they’ll be packin the heat of their new LP The Death of Nature.

Oh Sanders impart a talent for filling sonic space with washes of synthesized harmonies accentuated by an excellent display of counter-melodies. Combined with pop dance rhythms and the sincere alto vocals of Stella Leung the band captures the aesthetic appeal of later New Wave.

Five Questions with Oh Sanders

1. What are your five desert island records?

Since there's five of us, each of us got to pick one:

Dan: Tom Waits -- Rain Dogs
Josh: The Band -- The Band
Chris: Brian Eno -- Another Green World
Duncan: Saint Etienne -- Tiger Bay
Stella: I'm assuming that since I get to choose a record in advance, this is very premeditated. So instead of a concept LP, I would like to collect a record of memories from the favorite people in my life, each track carefully selected to best represent that individual.

2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?

I'd say it's a mix of '90s indie pop and new wave, with some other odds and ends thrown in. We're surprisingly eclectic--it surprises even us sometimes.

3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?

The Atlantic (Gainesville, FL). The promoters are no-nonsense guys who really know how to put on a show, and the room feels just right whether you're playing for 20 people or 200.
Common Grounds (also in Gainesville) is a close second, and an honorable mention goes to Club TSI (Jacksonville, FL).

4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?

Dan Fitzpatrick. 'Nuff Said.

5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?

I think something a little leaner and more muscular than our record. And something a little cute and funny. Fortune cookies, maybe. Or ridiculous hats. You'll just have to come see.
