My Teenage Stride

Summary by Len Neighbors

My Teenage Stride, comprised of Jedediah Smith, Brett Whitmoyer, Dakkan Abbe, Mat Patalano and Jeff Ciprioni, are a Brooklyn-based psychedelic indie rock band founded in 2003.

Their 2007 album "Ears Like Golden Bats" was included in Magnet Magazine's "Top 20 Albums of 2007" and was also featured in the magazine in the summer 2007 issue. According to Emusic, My Teenage Stride's music "is the kind that snatches the best bits of classic Antipodean bands like the Chills, the Bats, David Kilgour and the Go-Betweens and re-combines them in canny, charming ways."

The album "Ears Like Golden Bats" was celebrated as "one of the year's most thrilling surprises, an album that wraps wry gallows humor in glistening guitars and whistling synths.... Smith has written an album with nary a forgettable minute."

2008 marks My Teenage Stride's first appearance at Athens PopFest.

Classify! Uh...the sound of one demographic clapping

3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?

Sweden, and Cakeshop in New York

Why? Well, Sweden is a wonderful country, and they treat bands right. And everyone has nice haircuts. Cakeshop is the most fun place to play in New York, even though it's in Manhattan. Andy Bodor is a really swell guy and supports great bands and people like going there. I don't ever want to stop playing there.

4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?

Brett.

5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?

A couple of new faces. Loud guitars. Gin-induced reverse schadenfreude.
