Lognhalsmottagningen
Summary by Casey DeHoedt
Picture in your mind that touching scene of romance clichés. The long separated lovers viewing each other across the lea of heather. Overwhelmed by the joy of reunion they float on angel wings, magnetized to one another by celestial fates. And as Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet reaches a climax, the two lovers embrace; becoming one in a moment of bliss and beauty. Now, take that image and substitute some things: lea of heather becomes downtown Athens; Tchaikovsky’s concerted strings become the raucous thrash of Lognhalsmottagningen; and – well – beauty is still beauty but now it’s laden with old school bad-assery.
This Swedish slash Arizonian duet is the result of a phone conversation between Boyracer’s Stewart Anderson and the Faintest Idea’s Martin (and the kids thought the Postal Service overcame a spatial snag). Lo-fi recordings, machine-gun vocals, and amphetamine guitars kick you in the shins with a grunted “OI!” (or whatever the Swedish translation would be).
