Hot Lava
Summary by Casey DeHoedt
Hot Lava is a quartet from Richmond Virginia. Veined in a nicely executed post-punk aesthetic, their up-beat tempos paired with slightly monotone vocals give their poppy sounds a Nihilistic quality of art kids painting on a different type of canvas. Venture to say, their band name is seems to be cleverly chosen. Some of their songs appear to be composed from audio-fied concepts of raw elemental force – i.e. Hot Lava.
Five Questions with Hot Lava
1. What are your five desert island records?
The Rentals - return of the rentals
E.L.O. - out of the blue
The Breeders- last splash
The Sad Cobras - no more graves
The Pretneders - pretenders II
2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?
No, but I think you did it well. Before Jared was in the band he said we sounded like a mash up of Blondie and Weird Al. I don't know if I
believe that anymore.
3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?
Birthday parties, you can generally do whatever you want at those.
4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?
Our laptops? We're nerds.
5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?
Something fun, something different. We hope you can tap your foot to it.
