Good Graces
Summary by Carrie Dagenhard
Kim Ware is The Good Graces, accompanied by guitarist John McNicholas. Since 2000, Ware has operated indie label Eskimo Kiss Records, as well as offered her drumming talents to a variety of bands. Self-proclaimed “minimalist” indie folk, the music lives up to the title. Emotional and slow moving, Ware’s music is the result of someone who has spent several years involved in local mucic accompanying others and has finally sat down with pen and paper herself. This is Ware’s first Popfest.
Five Questions with Good Graces
1. What are your five desert island records?
(this would probably change daily, but today:)
Spoon - Girls Can Tell; Matt Pond PA - The Nature of Maps; Beck - Sea Change; The National - Boxer; Superchunk - No Pocky for Kitty
2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?
minimalist, acoustic-based indiefolk/pop
3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?
(tie) locally, Kavarna is my fave place because it's laid-back and comfortable, and the staff is so nice. One of my best shows to date was at Flicker in Athens though, which is another favorite (and I'm fortunate enough to be playing there for popfest!). I loved Flicker for a lot of the same reasons as Kavarna; relaxed, comfy, really good sound on stage.
4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?
Well I've never actually toured in the Good Graces. But in one of my old bands I always brought along a stuffed animal. So I guess that might be a little weird for a 36 year old (at the time I was about 30 though, so cut me some slack!).
5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?
passionate, simple yet catchy tunes that will hopefully stick in your head... girl vocals... and we're really nice :)
