Boyracer
Summary by Casey DeHoedt
Formed in 1990, Boyracer has logged a lot of miles before reaching Athens Popfest. Originally from Wetherby, England, this band’s biography reads like the lyrics from AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock and Roll).” After several worldwide tours, constant alterations of the band’s set, eleven LPs (and an almost exponential amount of compilation appearances and EPs) and a four year hiatus, the band seems to have settled into occasional shows and a ranch in Arizona. Beat in Melbourne Australia described them as “Morrissey with his nuts in a vice,” and that’s undisputed.

1. What are your five desert island records?
Girls At Our Best "Pleasure"
Jesus and Mary Chain "Psychocandy"
Homosexuals "Astral Glamour"
Kirtsy Maccoll "Tropical Brainstorm"
Buzzcocks "Singles Going Steady"
2. Could you classify your sound for people who haven't heard it before?
High octane punkpop? Or a sort of "updated c86 sound" (apparently).
3. What is your favorite place to play, and why?
Athens of course! Great people, cheap beer, breakfast at the Grit.
4. What is the weirdest thing you take on tour?
This particular performance that would be our one year old daughter Tallulah. (But she's not wierd of course).
5. What should people expect from your Athens PopFest performance?
Well, it will probably be our last Boyracer performance so there wil be a few old chestnuts thrown into the set, plus some brand new never before performed songs too. But no tears, just fast fuzzy pop, with lots of laughs and spilled drinks.
