So Say We All: The Battlestar Galactica Blog Carnival, vol. 7
by Len Neighbors For this the seventh edition of "So Say We All," the theme continues to be religion. We have several submissions from folks still talking about last week's intense episode, "Faith," and plenty of talk about this week's epsiode, "Guess What's Coming to Dinner?", but God is all the rage. David Bird starts us off with an interesting post about Roslin regaining her status as a spiritual leader for the Fleet, or at least for Adama. Adama's had a conversion experience of sorts, but not about God. He believes in Earth. Amy Vernon over at Remote Access is all about the political intrigue. She wants to know if Leoben and Sharon knew the hybrid would jump as soon as it was plugged back in. I'm wondering where they jumped to! James Newberry over at NewbSpeak likes the fact that the audience knows that at least four of the final five have no idea where Earth is. Is the joke on us, or on them? MaryAnn Johanson at FlickFilosopher is interested in disctinctions between Cylon and human. What is the real difference? She seems to think that once the skinjobs reject resurrection, they become "pretty much indistinguishable from a human." Except their backbones glow red when they're gettin' it on. Ms. Smarty Pants Know It All was pleased with the pace of "Guess What's Coming to Dinner?" She feels like it returned to the pace of earlier seasons, calling the whole episode a roller coaster ride. She also submitted her post about "Faith," in which she ponders the significance of the final words of the sacrificed Eight. Norm Doering touched my heart when he pointed out the the rebel Cylons' realization that a finite life was the only meaningful life was a bit Elvish, in the Tolkien sense. He is so right about this. As for me, the religious plotlines work perfectly because they shatter the audience's birds' eye view. We might know what the characters are doing, but we have no idea "what is true and what is not." I was just going to say, and i posted it over at newbspeak's. I think that somewhere in them. The final five have been to earth, or know something about it. Just one the fact that when they were realizing who they were the background music was "All along the watchtower". It's the only earth music we've heard.
