New Hope for the Radioby Allison Carter 04.14.2008 Everywhere I go, the radio stations I like are disappearing.
In my hometown the Chattanooga station 96.5 the Mountain has been replaced with a Top 40 station, much to the protest of some Chattanooga listeners (I heard there was a petition going around to save the station.)
Now that I’m back in Athens I’ve also desperatly began to miss 99X (99.7) because I have been musically trapped with only 3 cds to listen to in my rental car.
I will admit that going to the internet was a good choice on 99X’s part, but has left the area surrounding Atlanta without a viable option for alternative rock. The closest I have come to finding a decent, and I should emphasize decent, is 96.1; however the music played on 96.1 is not a perfect match for me.
Then I got into the car with my friend Anna. We flipped through a few stations then she left the dial on 100.7. I was immediately turned off to the station because the numbers are similar to a country station where I live, but as I listened I became fairly excited about this new discovery.
My new discovery would become my new replacement and it is called Hot 100.7. Jon Elkins started this radio station with hopes to provide an alternative to the typical radio station full of “insipid pop music” (as stated by the 100.7 website) and commercials. The station is also meant to promote local artists while still playing a wide range of music.
I am really interested to see how this station compares to the others I have listened to in the past. I hope that the music variety and quality will be better and I am thrilled that I won’t have to sit through terribly long commercial breaks.
I give props to Jon Elkins for supplying Athens with a fresh, new radio station made to please those of us who truly appreciate music. |

I must admitt, the best part of HOT 100.7 FM is the show called The Daily Hangover.
