FYI: On DVD/Blu-ray This Week – February 16, 2010
02/15/2010 After the first two weeks of February yielded a lot of films from essentially the same genre, this week sees a wide variety of titles. There’s a spoof with the star from Spawn in the lead, a very nice collection of movies in honor of one of Warner Bros.’ biggest stars, a critically acclaimed drama from a talented writer/director whose name happens to be Steve McQueen, and a thriller about a killer who continues to commit murders even while he’s locked up. BLACK DYNAMITE -‘70s-style blaxploitation action comedy about a crime fighter. (DVD FEATURES): filmmaker and cast commentary, deleted and alternate scenes, making-of featurette, the Comic-Con experience. (BLU-RAY FEATURES): same as DVD, plus: MovieIQ, The ‘70s: Back in Action featurette, BD-Live. CLINT EASTWOOD: 35 FILMS 35 YEARS AT WARNER BROS. - collection of titles with Clint Eastwood as the star. GOOD HAIR - Chris Rock documentary on how certain hairstyles effect African-Americans. (DVD FEATURES): commentary with Chris Rock and producer Nelson George, theatrical trailer. HUNGER - Michael Fassbender plays an Irish Republican Army member who, while imprisoned, goes on a hunger strike. (DVD FEATURES/BLU-RAY FEATURES): video interviews with writer/director Steve McQueen and actor Michael Fassbender, making-of documentary, The Provo’s Last Card? (BBC episode), theatrical trailer, booklet with an essay by film critic Chris Darke. LAW ABIDING CITIZEN - a man goes after the district attorney who set his family’s killer free.
