FYI: On DVD/Blu-ray This Week – February 2, 2010
02/03/2010 This week on DVD, we’ve got a few pretty forgettable titles about love, an indie drama about a disorder akin to autism, and Woody Harrelson leading a bunch of armed kids around the town. (NOTE: A lot of films already available on DVD or Blu-ray periodically get re-releases, including this week, but I’m narrowing my focus to titles that are hitting the shelves for the very first time.) ADAM – Adam (Hugh Dancy), a man with Asperger’s syndrome, thinks he may get the chance to establish a meaningful human connection with someone after Beth (Rose Byrne) moves into the apartment upstairs. DVD SPECIAL FEATURES: deleted and extended scenes, “Creating Adam” (behind the scenes), audio commentary with the writer/director and producer, Fox Movie Channel Presents: “Life After Film School with Rose Byrne." AMELIA – Director Mira Nair’s biopic of Amelia Earhart (Hilary Swank) and her relationships with her publicist, George Putnam (Richard Gere) and Gene Vidal (Ewan McGregor). DVD SPECIAL FEATURES: deleted scenes, “Making ‘Amelia,’” “The Power of Amelia Earhart,” Movietone newsreels, trailers. BLU-RAY FEATURES: “The Plane Behind the Legend,” “Re-Constructing the Planes of Amelia,” digital copy of the DVD included (rest of the features same as DVD). LOVE HAPPENS – A widower (Aaron Eckhart), who specializes in grieving, meets and falls for a floral designer (Jennifer Aniston), and he soon discovers that he has not completely gotten over the loss of his wife. DVD SPECIAL FEATURES: deleted scenes, “Giving Romance a New Look,” feature commentary with the director, writers and producers. BLU-RAY FEATURES: My Scenes, BD Live (rest of the features same as DVD). NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU – A myriad of some of the best actors and directors alike join forces to create several shorts dedicated to the Big Apple. DVD FEATURES: none. BLU-RAY FEATURES: director interviews, theatrical trailer. ZOMBIELAND – Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) teams up with Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) to survive a zombie apocalypse. DVD FEATURES: commentary with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, the director and the writers, “In Search of Zombieland” (behind the scenes), “Zombieland is Your Land” – the zombification of the United States, deleted scenes, Visual Effects Progression scenes, theatrical promo trailers, ‘Woke Up Dead’ episode (“Up and At ‘Em”). BLU-RAY FEATURES: “Beyond the Graveyard” (behind the scenes picture-in-picture track), movieIQ, PS3 wallpaper, bonus digital copy of the film, BD Live, (rest of the features same as DVD).
