Greek Stars Promote Declare Yourself
10/07/2008 Declare Yourself is an organization aimed at getting young people to vote. UGA Students got a dose of that election spirit Tuesday afternoon when the Scott M. Foster and University of Georgia Alumna, Tiffany Dupont, stars of the hit ABC Family show, Greek, visited the UGA Bookstore to promote Declare Yourself and sign autographs for fans of the show. Foster, who plays Cappie, and Dupont, who plays Frannie, both say that voting is very important for young people, especially college students. Foster did not vote in the last election but says he will this year. Dupont sent in an absentee ballot from India in 2004, where she was working on the film One Night with the King at the time. “I think [voting] educates the people in the age group who are starting to learn about politics and the importance of voting,” Foster says, “And it let’s your voice be heard and you know, that’s what we’re trying to do.” “Being on College campuses, more students are starting to have their own opinions and be on their own and how incredible to have a time when the elections are right on the cusp of that,” says Dupont. Dupont says she knows how people feel when they say their vote doesn’t matter, “You feel so small in the mass of millions of people in America but the fact that we have the ability to vote is a gift and a blessing and I think we all need to take it.” “Yea, what she said,” Foster says jokingly, “I would tie them down and make them vote and say it does matter...” Neither Dupont nor Foster would disclose who they plan on voting for this fall. “I’ve never been subject to any particular party. I’m more about the person and who I believe is best for what we need at the time in our country, “ Dupont says. Dupont also says visiting other countries made her realize how lucky Americans are, that they get to vote and that their one vote actually matters. Foster also couldn’t disclose his character, Cappie’s real name. “I wish I knew,” Foster states, “Nobody will tell me, one person knows and he’s the creator of the show and he’s not going to spill the beans until it comes out in an episode. I wish I could tell you but I can’t.” Dupont and Foster became involved with Declare Yourself through Greek. “They made us do it,” Dupont joked. “They called and said you don’t have a choice,” Foster added, “No, they presented us with the option of working with the organization and it felt like something we wanted to do.” “And we’ve all really enjoyed it, it’s been great,” Dupont says. Foster and Dupont also say that the like to get out and meet the fans of the show and visit college campuses. Dupont is especially excited to be back at UGA. To register to vote go to DeclareYourself.com. Greek airs on ABC Family on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. Comments [post a comment] |
