Where Do We Go Now?: Alternatives To Tate Center During Construction

LOUD bangs, floating dust, closed bathrooms, and relocated offices... the Tate Center is no longer the tranquil place for students to go to unwind or do last minute homework.
However, Tate 2 construction may be giving students an opportunity to look at Athens in a different light.
With the increasing construction around the original building, students have been forced to look for other venues to relax and unwind from academics and stress.
Though tough to take at times, this temporary nuisance to students may be a lucky thing rather than a curse. Out of the horrendous construction, certain truths have risen about what the University of Georgia and Athens has to offer.
One truth: Downtown Athens is not just a place to go out.
Athens is filled with appetizing and inexpensive meals for every palate. From Indian food to Mexican, lunch at an Athens restaurant is a must!
Bulldog Café is not the only food venue on campus, and it's time to expand our horizons.
Students can grab a pita at PitaPit, or a piece of carrot cake at the Last Resort. You'll gain a new appreciation for the small community of restaurants in Athens.
The relatively short walk to downtown Athens gives students a great opportunity to try the cuisine of the town.
“I love Tranmetropolitan!“ said Ashley Johnson, a senior from Powder Springs, GA. “They have the best pizza! I can get a medium for about $8!”
Second truth: UGA’s campus is quite beautiful! It’s not just buildings for - GASP - classes, but UGA boasts new and old architectural finds.
Whether one walks to north campus to see the university’s historical buildings or the double-helix shaped Life Science building on south campus, the university is riddled with numerous built scenery.
“I can’t decide on my favorite building,” Sean Cuevo, a senior from Yorktown, NY, said. “The Chapel is nice, Brooks Hall has interesting walls, and the main library has a really cool view.”
Third truth: Tate is not the only place to just loosen up. Countless places around campus have places to just relax.
Whether you are in the Memorial Hall lounge or the Joe Brown lobby, finding a place to rest your head from the rigors of academia is not hard.
And if one has enough time to find a new coffee joint to medicate the fatigue of the occasional all-nighter, students can just walk downtown.
From Espresso Royale to Starbucks to Walker's to Hot Corner... if someone needs more than rest, getting a java fix while studying is relatively easy.
So don't worry about the noise or the dust surrounding Tate 2 construction because Athens and UGA is waiting for you.
Be brave. Who knows what you will find.
