The Return of The Office: That's What She Said
04/09/2008 If you find yourself muttering the phrase, “That’s what she said” after every other sentence or drawing “I heart Jim H.” all over your notebook, you are one in thousands that are counting down the tedious minutes until 9 p.m. Thursday. NBC succeeds again in producing a hit comedy show that has people in hysterics. The little network that could has received a reputation for bringing some of televisions’ greatest comedies into the spotlight. Seinfeld, Friends, Will and Grace and Scrubs have all been more than amusing children in this network’s saga. With over 9 million viewers, The Office joins the ranks as a current NBC winner. The cast including Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Jenna Fischer along with many other talented actors brings this painfully funny world into existence. You cannot help but cringe as Michael Scott gives away a Dundie Award for stinkiest bowel movement or when Dwight, in a pure act of loyalty, hands over his urine. It is a show that thrives off of crossing the boundaries, and we absolutely love it for that. When Micheal Scott via Steve Carell is your boss, forcing employees to shove hot dogs in their mouth, hosting a Victoria secret shopping spree, holding a less than politically correct diversity exercise, and dressing up as a prison inmate are normal even mundane occurrences. The WGA strike has left a hollow shell for us Office enthusiasts. But not to worry, we will soon be replenished with all the Jim and Pam flirtation you could ever ask for. Here is a recap of the last four episodes in season 4 before the strike commenced: “Local Ad”- Dunder Mifflin Corporate bought television ad space in local markets, including Scranton. Michael disagreed with the commercial style that Ryan and the other branches were following. He decided that DM Scranton would produce their own commercial. “Branch Wars”- Karen, now the regional manager of the Utica branch, uses her position of power to acquire one of Scranton’s precious employees, Stanley. Michael drags Jim along for the ride putting Jim in a very awkward position. “Survivor Man”- Michael is feeling left out after finding out Ryan took a handful of branch managers and even Toby on a wilderness retreat, but didn't invite him. In order to get back with nature, Michael goes on a camping trip in pursuit of his own adventure. Unnerving similarities between Michael and Jim are revealed. “Deposition”- Michael is driving to New York with Jan where he is going to speak at her deposition. Jan is suing Dunder Mifflin for four million dollars over her wrongful termination. Michael is caught between his girlfriend and the livelihood of his first love, Dunder Mifflin. In Thursday night’s upcoming episode, “Dinner Party," Jim and Pam are invited to Michael’s condo for dinner. I think we can all image the hilarity that will inevitably ensue. Jenna Fisher said in an interview, “This episode that we start with called “The Dinner Party,” I am not lying when I say this is my favorite episode I have ever read of The Office.” If you want to see pure genius at work, order an apateazer at your nearest Chili’s, and tune in this Thursday for the long awaited return of NBC’s The Office.
