Athens' Own Blueline Finds Fans Across Georgia

by Erin Rock
04/10/2007

With influences like The Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows and Sister Hazel, the sound of the band Blueline is sure to reach the likes of many. But don't be fooled; Blueline's sound is all their own.

According to the band's MySpace page, the sound can be classified as, "acoustic driven pop rock."

Blueline was formed in 2004 when frontman Cliff Corr and lead guitarist Ian Lovejoy returned to their home of Albany, Ga., for the summer. Lovejoy and Corr, who had been working together performing acoustic shows in Athens and Albany, were interested in forming a full band. After acquiring Ian's brother, Jake Lovejoy, and childhood friend, Landon Burnette, the band was formed.

"It just kind of worked out that everyone in the band knew each other and all went to high school together," Jake said. "It gives us good chemistry, and since we know a lot of the same people, it really draws a good crowd when we play together."

The individuals' talents meshed so well with each other that they began to record their first EP, My Own Backyard, after just two months of practice.

Since its release date in 2004, the album has sold more than 1000 copies and has allowed Blueline to play shows across the state of Georgia. Blueline also released a second EP, Bobblehead, early last year.

"Right now we are just trying to play whenever we can to get our music out there," Jake said.

Blueline will get its first feel of being on tour this summer with shows booked as far from home as North Carolina.

"We will hopefully stay on the road for a couple of weeks," Jake said. "We're trying to build a fan base outside of the Athens/Atlanta area."

The band, which recently played at a benefit show for the Relay for Life at the Georgia Theatre, will play Friday April 12 at Tasty World.

Blueline has plenty of shows booked for the rest of the year. Each show begins at 10 p.m. with tickets priced at $5.

"Our performances show you something different than you've never really gotten a chance to hear around Athens," Jake said. "Fans can expect a fun night every night we play."
