More Details Revealed About Ledger

by Kathryn Durfee
01/24/2008

More details surrounding the untimely death of 28-year-old actor Heath Ledger emerge as his housekeeper releases her side of the story.

Teresa Solomon, Ledger's housekeeper, arrived at the apartment at around 12:30 p.m. About half an hour later, she entered Ledger's bedroom to change a light bulb. According to Solomon, he was lying face down in bed, covered in a sheet. She later told the police that she heard him snoring and therefore thought nothing was out of the ordinary.

Just before 3 p.m., Diana Wolozin, a massage therapist, arrived for a scheduled appointment. She knocked on the door but got no answer. After calling his cell phone with no response, Wolozin entered the room and began to set up her massage table. She then attempted to wake Ledger, but there was no reaction. She told police that the actor's body was cold to the touch.

And the plot thickens: Wolozin then called Mary-Kate Olsen for advice. Ledger and Olsen are friends, though the Post reports that they were an item. Olsen was on the West Coast but called for private security guards to come to the apartment. Finally, just before 3:30 p.m., Wolozin called 911 and reported that Ledger was not breathing. The masseuse was instructed by the emergency operator to perform CPR. Paramedics and the security guards arrived shortly after.

Paramedics attempted to revive Ledger with a cardiac defibrillator, but it was fruitless. Ledger was pronounced dead at 3:36 p.m.

According to the AP, funeral arrangements have been made for this Friday in New York. No other details concerning the service have been announced.

On Wednesday, police confirmed the earlier reports that a $20 bill rolled in a manner common among cocaine users was found in Ledger's apartment. However, Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne of the NYC Police Department has revealed that tests performed on the bill came back negative for drug residue.

It is also important to note that no illegal drugs were found in the apartment. There were six different prescription drugs found, but the police will not release what kinds of drugs they are. Instead, they are waiting on the results of the toxicology report, due next week.

An interview with Sophie Ward (sister of model Gemma Ward), and possible girlfriend of Ledger, was published in Ledger's hometown paper, the West Australian. Ward reported that Ledger did not have a drug problem and that while he had been back in Australia for the holidays, she didn't see him take a sip of alcohol. "He was clean and wasn't drinking any alcohol or taking drugs," she said. "He smoked cigarettes, but that's about it. He was drinking diet Coke...and said he was very committed to not drinking alcohol." She does not believe the actor took his own life.

Ward also commented on the actor's apparent frustration with his busy work schedule. He expressed a longing to spend more time with his daughter and seemed distraught over the amount of traveling he had to do.

Police reported Tuesday that further tests would be necessary to find out the true cause of death. Results should be available in about a week.
