Nothing But The Truth: Alpha Omega Reaches Out To Students

Living in the Bible Belt and attending a school with over 40 campus ministries can make finding a place to practice your faith a daunting task.
Students in Athens have a variety of churches to choose from, as well as religious organizations focused completely on students. College is a time for students to grow into adulthood and part of that is choosing where to practice their faith.
Many students have grown up attending church with their parents, so when they go to college it is often the first time they have had to discover their own individual beliefs and find a place where they can exercise those beliefs.
How does a student choose a religious organization with which to affiliate?
Some students find a place very similar to the church they grew up in that practices what they have been taught. Other students “church shop” until they find a place where they feel comfortable.
When asked what is important for a student to look for in a campus ministry, Paige Heigerick, a freshman at Gainesville State College, said, “Unification... the realness of it. That people are real about their relationship with God, and if I agree with what the campus leader preached about.”
For many students, it is a confusing and even frustrating time trying to figure out what to believe and where to go when there are so many options.
The campus ministries attempt to provide events for students to find out about the organization, meet the people, and learn what is taught there.
An event going on this week on the University of Georgia campus is called “Nothing but the Truth," which is being hosted by the Alpha Omega campus ministry.
Alpha Omega is a Christian campus ministry dedicated to teaching students about the Bible and what it says about following God. The series this week is composed of three lessons that are entitled “The Truth About Man," “The Truth About God," and “The Truth About Eternity."
The campus ministry leader, Kevin Thompson, will attempt to explain plainly what the Bible says about each of these concepts without deviating from the simple truth.
Christians involved with Alpha Omega believe that the Bible teaches the importance of sharing the truth about Jesus with others, and how the scripture can be applied to their daily lives.
When asked why this campus ministry is different than other organizations on campus, Marilisa Cicerchia, a freshman at UGA said, “I think it’s one of the most biblical ministries out there. It’s [sharing convictions with people] something that is challenging to everyone individually as well as our campus ministry as a whole. The results are what’s going to bring everyone together.”
Finding the truth may seem intimidating, but in Athens there are many places to explore in order to get involved and find “nothing but the truth.”
