Ahh, the anticipation is over, Dane Cook and Jessica Alba... mostly anticipating Dane Cook’s hilariousness, hilariousity if you will. As a rabid Dane Cook fan I had to make my way to the nearest theater for the first showing of his new movie Good Luck Chuck.
I was actually shocked that there were no previews... who knew theaters could be so reasonable. I was also surprised by the fact that Dane looks forty during the first part of the movie but it was just the lighting. I digress.
Good Luck Chuck is the romantic comedy of the moment. A blend of sweet moments and gross out comedy that will satisfy both guys and girls, it might be a great date movie if you don’t mind sitting through about thirty gratuitous sex scenes.
At the beginning of the movie, a young Chuck gets cursed by a goth girl that he would be the guy girls date before the find they one they marry.
Jessica Alba plays the pretty but clutzy Cam Wexler who meets Charlie “Chuck” Logan (Dane Cook) at the wedding of one of the ladies Chuck used to date.
Chuck nearly dies (literally) trying to woo Cam because she is a lethal, walking demonstration of Murphy’s Law. She stabs him with dental tools, electrocutes him while he’s jumping her car, and destroys his beautiful convertible all within fifteen minutes.
Chuck is incredibly adorable when winning over Cam. Ladies will giggle, guys will probably roll their eyes, but as I said, there are enough breast and masturbation jokes in this movie to get any guy laughing.
After Chuck and Cam consummate their relationship, Chuck realizes that the curse is real and he acts like a maniac to keep Cam from leaving him. Alas, it wouldn’t be a romantic comedy without some sort of dramatic build up. But honestly I would be a little off-put by his antics, too.
The plot is the same as every other movie in the genre. Guy meets girl, guy falls for girl, problems cause guy and girl to break up, guy does something incredibly romantic to win back girl and they live happily ever after.
Though the movie is not original, Dane Cook uses some of his signature jokes and facial expressions to make it worth a five-dollar matinee ticket. And if that’s not enough to entice you fellows, you get to see Jessica Alba in her panties multiple times.
