IFD began in 1997 with Eric Giffy, Tony Miller, and Craig Morriss, who shared a love of 1960s pop. In 2003, they recorded most of their work, which is very elaborate. Live shows now include relatives and friends in order to properly recreate their songs.

Ideal Free Distribution's genre is psychedelic rock. The band signed with the label Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records. More info can be found at the band's website.
